Leafs, Argos, Raptors and boxing news

Even though I wasn't too excited about the Leafs picking up Yanic Perrault for his third time around as a member of the Blue and White, after giving it a little more thought it's probably going to turn out to be a pretty solid choice for the Buds. Perrault is a pretty damn good defensive specialist who should shine playing with the likes of a Michael Peca and as a face-off man his talents go without question. Another plus for Yanic is that unlike Peca he also has a pretty good knack for putting the puck in the net as he becomes one of the very few Leafs that will exceed the 20-goal plateau this season.
Is it just my imagination or is Academy Award winning director Martin Scorsese looking more and more like the long lost twin of SCTV character Sid Dithers as brilliantly played by Eugene Levy? I was fully expecting the great Scorsese to ask the question during his acceptance speech "San Franciski, do you flying in or did you drove".
So it looks like the Argos have signed Damon Allen to again lead the 2007 version of the Double Blue. It just goes to show that even though they have recently signed NFL dropout Mike McMahon to a deal and have Michael Bishop coming back to camp, the team is certainly showing its weakness at the position in even considering the 40-something Allen to return as their starting QB. It could truly become a very long season for the team this season.
In the shake your head category while shopping a few days back in the neighborhood dollar store, I came upon an interesting item featured for the grand price of 99 cents: a royal blue, fifty-foot bungee chord. It only makes common sense that if you're to dive off a bridge and hurtle yourself towards a menacing gorge below, you should have the piece of mind that your very existence in this world is being protected by a piece of rubber purchased at your neighborhood Dollar Pal convenience store.
Remember that you read this here first, no matter what former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis is saying publicly. My sources are telling me that the 41-year-old is seriously considering coming out of retirement to knock out the 'Klutz from Kiev', Vitali Klitzscko back to the Crimea later this year. Both fighters would be guaranteed a 20 million purse with a healthy chunk of the pay per view pie. If this fight truly materializes look for it to break all financial records to be set in the upcoming May 5th blockbuster between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd The Barber' Mayweather.
Can you believe that it's the same group of suits that hired Raptors boss Bryan Colangelo, one of the great execs in the sport that also put the name of John Ferguson Jr. on a long term contact as GM of the Maple Leafs. I, as many believe they would have been further ahead handing the job off to Maynard Ferguson.
Speaking of 10 martini lunches and bad decisions, what in the hell was the CFL Hall of Fame selection committee thinking about in not inducting Pinball Clemons, 9 time all star Dan Ferrone and the legendary 'Leo The Lip' Cahill to the storied hall of fame. Can they prove themselves to be any more blatantly anti-Argo after this voting travesty? Darrin Flutie was a great player, but in the hall before Clemons, I truly do not think so.
To get back briefly to the world of pugilism and the theatre , I recently sat down and watched Sylvester Stallone's sixth and hopefully last installment of his sometimes classic "Rocky" saga, and to tell you the truth I can honestly tell you that it was a hell of a movie. Well done Sly! I truly do hope it will be the last, but I keep hearing rumors that there just maybe a Rocky 7. Seems the premise of the story is that the ex-champ suffering the ravages of an inflamed prostate fights a 10-round exhibition against Paris Hilton losing not only his title but his reputation as being the biggest ham in the flick.
I think everyone knows and understands the frustration of finding a good used car or especially in finding a great reasonable mechanic in this town. Well I can truthfully tell you that I have found the solution to all your problems. My buddies at TOJ Empire Auto are without a doubt the best I have come across, and I wouldn't give my business to anyone else. From sales to repair they just can't be touched. Conveniently located at 55 Toro Rd in North York, call my buddies Tony or Yuri at 416-398-0790 and mention my name.
